What About You? levels 1 and 2 help
students achieve conversational fluency by guiding them through
preliminary speaking and listening activities to prepare them
for an extended conversation that they conduct with multiple
partners. Getting Started activities activate prior knowledge
of the topic. Listening activities, Speaking activities, and
Word Work activities gradually prepare students to discuss
their real interests and opinions.
The range of ability within a classroom can
be large. The speaking activities in What About You? furnish
the structure that the less able students need, while providing
the opportunity for the more able students to expand the
response or exchange. Many teachers of English also have to
deal with large classes, and What About You? facilitates their
management by providing numerous pair and group activities.
