In Six-Way Paragraphs, a three-level series, the basic skills necessary for reading
factual material are taught through the use of the following six types of questions:
subject matter, main idea, supporting details, conclusions, clarifying devices, and
vocabulary in context.
The factual-based content helps to develop reading skills and provides
informational background.
Answering the six types of questions repeatedly in different contexts,
students learn what to look for when reading factual prose.
Facilitates the development of critical-thinking skills and sets the
foundation for higher comprehension and stronger retention.
A diagnostic chart reveals the questions answered correctly, as well as the
types answered incorrectly. Identifies skill weaknesses enabling students to
take the time to study the incorrect answers and take corrective action.
